Description
Working with Hives for Humanity, a non-profit organization that
enhances community through apiculture, the Dunbar Community Centre
Association has brought together community members to build, install and
maintain honeybee hives at the Dunbar Community Centre.

Through their mentorship-based programming Hives for Humanity has
worked with the Community Centre to find from within the Dunbar
community varied and diverse community members to work with the
bees. Hives for Humanity has created a spectrum of flexible
opportunities for people to engage in the therapeutic culture that
surrounds beehives. Their core programming focuses on working
alongside at-risk and marginalized communities, and everything else that
they do as a society supports that work.
The aim has been for Dunbar to support and connect people and pollinators, and
to build bridges of trust and respect between communities that are
diverse, regardless of social or economic status, and instead based on
our shared humanity.
