Description
This project was led and developed by neighborhood community members of Dunbar, MacKenzie Heights and Southlands, many of which were involved with the Green Bloc Neighbourhood project goal of reducing their ecological footprint by 25% within 12 months. This project Increased the amount of plant-based food production within their neighbourhood and supported local pollinators; Fostered inter-generational connection and collaboration between diverse neighbours and community groups, working together and providing a gathering place. It also created a physical legacy by creating neighbourhood-based outdoor activities and amenities for families to remain connected with one another throughout the entire year, and encouraging active transportation (walking & wheeling) around the neighbourhood.

They built:
1. Six raised garden beds and 4 raised (accessible) planter boxes to grow food and pollinator attractants - supporting an existing neighbourhood beehive, and attracting new pollinators. The planters incorporated seating, encouraging community members to mingle and learn about pollination and local food production.
2. They installed 8 mason bee houses in strategic locations to enhance bee habitat.
3. They also built a community bulletin board to keep community members up-to-date and engaged with our project progress and ongoing events.
