Description
Our Memories was a beautiful collaboration between the Moberly Writers and Storytellers, Sandeep Johal, Alyssa Martens and Bryant Race. The Moberly Writers and Storytellers, a group of senior women involved in the Arts & Health project, would work with literary artist Alyssa Martens to tell stories of their life in English and Punjabi. These stories were not only transformed into a book, but were also transformed into a mural with the help of Braynt Race, Alyssa Martens and muralist Sandeep Johal, and a Neighbourhood Matching Fund. The mural was designed by Sandeep Johal, and painted with the help of the Moberly Writers and Storytellers around the Ross Park wading pool, a popular meeting place for all residents of the south Vancouver neighbourhood, including the writers and their families. The mural depicts the experience of immigrating to Canada from India, an experience common for all the participating writers, and one that evokes strong feelings of youth, family, love, and new experiences.
