Living in Vancouver we acknowledge and respect that we occupy unceded Coast Salish Land and Waters. The goal of this project was to educate and inspire community members to embrace these values through hands on experience with permaculture design. They built a boulevard community garden that supports the local bee population, attracts indigenous birds, produces food and incorporates indigenous artwork to provide opportunities for learning about sustainability and reciprocity. Community members were invited by public posters, door to door canvassing & social media. They worked together with local artist Dan Wallace to create a North West Coast (NWC) of Haida and Lekwiktaich inspired concrete tile pathway from the road to the sidewalk. Together, they also built a bee hotel with an exterior NWC painting designed by Dan Wallace. Community members were invited to join at any point of the process from planning, digging, planting, construction, maintenance, to food harvesting and distribution.Medium/discipline of Project
