Description
Project Green Bloc was the first hands-on project to directly engage citizens in the Greenest City Action Plan's goal of lowering Vancouver’s ecological footprint. As a citizen-driven initiative, it cultivated the leadership skills of Riley Park residents and empowered them to collaborate on building sustainability into the fabric of their homes. Through learning and sharing opportunities, residents in this Project Green Bloc neighbourhood collectively lowered their ecological footprint by 12% in two years. In addition, the neighbourhood’s ecological footprint resulting from transportation and paper waste was cut in half.

They painted a street mural, installed community benches, and a pollinator pathway.
