Sunnyside ParkDescription
In the summer of 2017, with the support of Green Bloc group of residents, with funding from the City of Vancouver (through the Pianos on the Streets initiative) as well as the support of Pacey's Pianos, a public piano was placed in Sunnyside Park. Throughout the summer, the piano provided opportunities for people of all incomes, ethnicities, ages, and levels of talent to meet and have some fun, create a few memories and get to know each other. It has been a way to strengthen community ties, and for the community to get to know each other better. Additionally, allowing students from Charles Dickens Elementary to paint the piano offered a great opportunity for local children to create change in their local park. Placing a small shelter over the pianohas protected the piano and allowed residents to gathe rin the park in all weather; th e located of the piano was completely unshaded previously and vulnerable to both extremes of heat from the sun as well as rain. The small shelter (with donated green roof) has also covered shelves for a free library.
