Description
The QA Garden Project has been a revitalization partnership project managed by the
Mount Pleasant Food Network. It has created a food forest of
indigenous plant species that acts as a teaching and community learning
space for school students and the community. It has added soil, built watering/irrigation infrastructure,
introduced new indigenous plant species, and added informational placards to
the garden. These additions have allowed the garden to flourish as a hub for
learning and teaching about indigenous medicines and food harvesting
practices.
The garden has leveraged the MPFN's existing partnerships with community
organizations to maximize the impact of infrastructure improvements. These
include partnerships with the QA School that ensure the garden is used
by students as a space of learning partnerships with La Boussole's Food
Sovereignty Education programs that allow the garden to become a
destination for Francophone and Immigrant students to learn about
indigenous food ways, and a partnership with MPNH's Aboriginal
Development program which is currently engaged in a "Re-Surfacing History"
4 project that train aboriginal community members to be Native Plant and
Medicine experts who are able to exercise harvesting rights in the garden.
