Description
The parklet enhances this neighbourhood, creating a place to build community connections and animating public activities, while nurturing communitiy ownership of the parklet.

In 2013, MPNH received donated 100-year old timber from the demolition of the Rise building at 11th and Main Street which was to be used in community projects. In December 2015, MPNH, Projects in Place Society and Upcycle Vancouver submitted a parklet application to VIVA. Upcycle Vancouver and Habitat for Humanity provided funds to PIPS to support the design and implementation of the parklet, with the intent to use the upcycled wood and provide opportunities for community engagement. The partners have also worked closely with two local architects from the outset (Travis Hanks and Jasminka Miletec-Prelovac) who assisted MPNH to steward the wood. The project funding supported the costs of the build, including processing the wood, purchasing additional materials needed, and professional engineering expertise.
